Revelations of the fairly obvious but somehow never pointed out

First, how (the original) Star Wars should have ended.

Then, for good measure, how Lord of the Rings should have ended.

I'm still awestruck that neither of these had ever occurred to me.

In her highness's defense, transmissions can only travel at light speed but ships can go through hyperspace. In a civilization spread across a galaxy, this would make hand delivering messages by far the fastest way of communicating. Now, she could have switched ships but the rental rates on even economy compact ships were nuts back then.

LOTR- yeah I always thought the appearance of Gandalf on the Eagles after the destruction of the ring was a bit of Tolkien ex machina. Precisely because it makes you wonder why they didn't use them up until then.

Best part of either clip- the Eye of Sauron saying 'I don't like you'.

You're totally right about that "hand delivery" concept. I've had that faint idea before, of a sort of inter-galactic Pony Express, but haven't written any sci-fi in ages to do anything with it.
