I moved half a ton of calendars today...
Oct. 27th, 2005 10:09 pm...at the bookstore. At least. We're getting deluged in 2006 stuff (not to mention the Christmas stuff beginning to seep in (ack), and shipping receiving in the back had some 30 boxes they needed me to deal with (ie, get out of their way) to be able to function normally. Probably have to do more tomorrow, but at least I've done all the heavy labor with a hand truck and all. Whew.
I also finished the last of Jasper Fforde's Thursday Next series, which contained near the climax the line, "The fate of the world hung on the single stroke of a croquet mallet." Fairly representative overall I would have to say, too; right there is the alternate reality, the entirely absurd, and the overly dramatic rolled into one. Take into consideration that the same scene (the World Croquet championship match) includes a minotaur cursed with slapstick, and a fictional character escaped into reality attempting to dominate English politics (and throw the game), and you sort of get the flavor. The first one is The Eyre Affair, if anyone's interested.
Oh, and once again, somebody is certain they've discovered Atlantis. Intriguing argument, but then it always is, isn't it? (courtesy of littlelotte on the anthropology lj community)
