Inflatable Technology!
Nov. 26th, 2007 10:47 amThis is just too incredible. When Sluggy Freelance meets venture capital projects, we should all be nervous/excited.
But yes, there is a company proposing an ultra-lightweight electric car with an assemble-at-home frame and a body essentially made out of air bags. Among others, there are claims that it will float in a flood, can be driven off a 25 foot cliff without injury, and will cost less than $10,000.
However, if you are looking for a more plausible (ie, more likely to come to fruition) but still totally futuristic car option, check out Aptera, actually set to begin production within a year.
Anyway, I had to check these out to lift my spirits after discovering that an SUV is the "2007 Green Car of the Year." Give me a freaking break! This travesty gets less than 2/3 of my used car's mpg! Sigh.
