Rise of the Nuthatch
Mar. 11th, 2008 04:16 amWell, that was a fun weekend -- Fri. night
kaph and I hosted the first of a monthly movie night for high school kids, then we went down to visit
graheim and
ellyane (and their young imp, who now more closely resembles a pixie) over Sat/Sun. Got home a bit late Sun. night, but it was totally worth it.
In addition to good food and fellowship, I'd say the highlight was a role-playing beta-test (make that just plain 'improvised on the spot') Mystery Men-style game, notably kaph's first rpg experience. She was, I must say, impressive. Her character, The Adolescent (superpower: strong but not entirely controllable pheromones), was not only a brilliant unpremeditated creation, but her improv was excellent. At one point early on I thought, "Oh dear, she's really not enjoying herself." And then I realized it was just her intensely moody character being played to the hilt.
I had fun finally getting to debut The Human Nuthatch (superpower: ability to climb down anything), a concept that
astrobolism and I concocted years ago (as I recall) while doing volunteer window washing at the public library in our hometown. Alas, this escapade took place in a golf course, so there was not much scope for his abilities -- he did well to just keep two thugs busy until help arrived. The 75-year-old lady Squirrel Whisperer (and the furry minions she commands) and Ho-Ho, the rotund 4-foot snack cake baker with a taste for fighting crime, proved much more effective.
But mark my words, my sunflower seed munching hero will make his name famous yet.
And not just to the cops on the nuisance calls to the water tower where he practices.
